SEEKING TO VALIDATE: KEENKO, a Media Archive App – Catalogue All of Your Notes, Photos, Videos, Voice Memos

Hi everyone, this is my first post on IndieHackers.

I want to build a media archive app, and I'm seeking feedback on validating the idea.

THE PAIN

I have a particular pain, and I don't think I'm alone in this. AFAICT, there is no easy way to access one's notes, voice memos, videos, music tracks, etc – all in one place.

In addition to random notes and voice memos I keep for work and play, I'm a musician and former filmmaker. I'm also the self-appointed "media keeper" for my family and friends.

I'm the guy that often gets the text, "hey do you have that picture of x?"

Usually, I have to dig across Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud, etc, for 5-10 minutes to find it.

A separate pain is that I want to back up my paper journals and convert them into searchable text, and I want to see all of my media by date, to see photos or digital notes from the date of a certain journal entry, for example.

INSPIRATIONS FOR THE APP

Functionally it would be like starchive.io, but much simpler and user-friendly.

This is app is also inspired by Tiago Forte's concept of building a "second brain", ie a robust, digital system for retrieving your own notes and media materials – https://www.keepproductive.com/blog/how-to-build-a-second-brain.

I find Tiago's system overly complex, and too focused on projects/tasks/productivity. The app that I'd like to build will be more focused on simplicity, and resiliency/file redundancy.

I've also struggled to find a good place to store my music tracks online, so that they're easily searchable and shareable. Soundcloud is the best option, but I can't bring myself to pay nearly $20/mo for it, when I only use it for archival purposes, and occasional sharing.

As an app, I like Swinsian's simplicity for playing back audio files, but it's UX sucks, and it breaks if you move audio files.

For notes, I like Notion and Apple Notes. The notes side would probably err towards Apple Notes, but with markdown and tags.

CORE FUNCTIONALITY

The core functionality of the app would be searchable/taggable text docs, photos, audio files, and video files. Interface-wise, it might look like Dropbox or Google Drive, but it will be optimized with tags, playback, and robust search features. I'd want to build it to be lightweight as possible, so that it loads quicky from page to page. Ideally, it would have some sort of 'reminders' feature as well, but it'll be pretty basic at first.

I want to validate the heck out of this idea and I'm starting here. I've also thought about running paid ads to generate email sign-ups, and possibly a pre-sale.

Maybe I will build a mock-up in Figma and create a "value video" from that.

QUESTIONS

My questions here are two:

Does this sound like a saleable idea?
What are the best ways to validate it?
