Hello, fellow indie hackers.
So it has been a week since we launched Sekker(https://sekker.io) to the public,
we expected to get millions of users... but that didn't happen 🤪.
We started to work slowly on marketing and to share it on multiple channels like Reddit, Twitter, Quora, Facebook, LinkedIn, Indiehackers.
We didn't have great luck with them, we gained a bit of traction to the website but we weren't able to convert them to actual users, so we keep iterating on our product and landing page to improve it.
Lessons learned:
- Ask for feedback from people you don't know(not only familiar friends or family). We had great luck and we received great feedback from a few fellow indie hackers that helped us improve greatly our UX and landing page.
- Whatever you thought about your product sign-up process that can cause friction, probably it will so do yourself a favor and make the sign-up process as easy as possible.
Improvements:
- We change the layout of the landing page completely and re-wrote the texts to show our value better.
- Removed email confirmation to reduce friction on the sign-up process.
- Redesigned the survey builder to be much more user-friendly and more updated UI.
- Starting to have somewhat of an online presence.
- Made the product completely free to attract users.
If anyone wants to talk, ask any question, or help us with the marketing process we are here to talk :)
Hi Georgy, congratulations on your launch! Are you doing it fulltime or as a side project?
Also, do you have some specific set goals? Which channel brought you more visitors?
Hi Arstan,
It's a side project me and my co-founder @avivmoshe96 work on it in our free time.
We didn't set specific goals yet, it's the first time we launching/marketing so we just try to attract initial users and base our presence.
Currently indie hackers, then Facebook, then redit.
Hi Georgy,
congrats on your launch.
Let me express my humble opinion on your situation.
I have a feeling that it's not a lesson you had to learn. Look, even if you asked strangers, would it change your experience dramatically? Honestly, I don't think so.
Why?
Because:
I'd suggest you to narrow a lot your users, preferring some very specific businesses/websites and work only with them first. They would have specific requirements and if you'd satisfy them they will buy from you, not from a very generic product.
Hope, it helps.
Good luck!
Hi SeaCat,
Thanks for your feedback :)
So about what you wrote,
I think collecting feedback from strangers and finding our specific customers are 2 different verticals.
The first our about collecting feedback is helping us to improve the product in general, it was super beneficial to us to see how completely stranger uses our product and we actually improved the product a lot after this.
The second vertical of finding our potential users,
We didn't try to invent the wheel, we just offered a better version of the same thing.
After doing market research and finding out what is mostly being used, which features are most interesting, and taking the best parts from the market.
We already had one successful pilot with one startup so we know the product actually works and helps people, but we want to create a funnel online so we won't have to talk with each client personally to make them use it.
So you are completely right... this month our mainly focus will be finding our main target and customers :)
I will let you know when we find them! 😉
Cool, looking forward to hearing about your success!
