We're Mokkup.ai, and we've built a tool that lets anyone – data analysts, product managers, BI devs, you name it – create high-fidelity dashboard wireframes in under 30 minutes, no design skills required.
Our journey started in February '23, when we felt the pain of a long process: clients requesting dashboards, analysts relaying the info to designers, and back-and-forth iterations... We knew there had to be a better way, so we created Mokkup.
And now, we have over 30K customers in just a year. Most of the conversions were organic and from almost zero paid marketing! And our major organic traffic currently is from SEO.
Initial struggle:
Getting our SEO game on point is a real rollercoaster, as we all know. With a small but dedicated team at Mokkup, we dove headfirst into experimentation. We had dozens of blogs out there, but they just weren't hitting the mark. Why? Well, we realized they were either poorly structured or lacking the right keywords with enough search volume.
That's when we decided to buckle down and figure out our SEO strategy, and in the process, found SEMrush. With this powerful tool, we gained invaluable insights into our SEO strategy. We could identify the keywords where we were falling behind and pinpoint areas where our content needed improvement.
Setting up structure:
SEMrush was a game-changer for us, helping us improve our blogs and boost our online presence. Plus, we got organized with a Blog Calendar that had details about:
This made it easy for everyone to stay on the same page and work toward our goals.
We also revamped old blogs that weren't doing so hot. By constantly tweaking and testing, we made sure we were getting better and better results.
They say it would take 90 days to see if your SEO is giving you any returns or not. And indeed, it did give for us.
Banking on initial success:
In the first three months (April'23 - June'23), our traffic was impressive, and we made the most of it. Here's a snapshot of our journey during that time:

We quickly realized that blogs discussing AI and how Mokkup.ai aids in the BI development process were our shining stars.
We also doubled down on landing page SEO, conducting competitive analysis to pinpoint the keywords that would propel us to the top. The result? We clinched the #1 spot for nearly 30 keywords!
Throughout this period, our Blog Calendar was in full swing, keeping us on track with consistent posting, proper structure, and thorough keyword research. And it paid off big time. In 12 months, we have about 1.5M+ Impressions and 40k+ Clicks organically across all pages.

With a whopping 45% of our conversions coming solely from our SEO, with other free marketing channels contributing to the rest, we achieved something incredible this year – we slashed our marketing spend by half! And here's the best part: despite the budget cut, we didn't see any major dip in conversions.

Medium - the underrated platform
After witnessing the success of our blogs, we decided to expand our reach by leveraging Medium. Why Medium? Well, we saw it as an alternative channel that required minimal effort to repurpose our existing content. Plus, its audience base is perfectly aligned with our target audience in data visualization, analytics, and BI development spaces.
We got our Medium account up and running in December '23, and since then, we've gained a solid following of 3K+ followers. What's more impressive? We're seeing 20+ conversions every week solely from our repurposed articles.

Here are 2 tips that worked for us on Medium:
We optimized our blog titles by incorporating words like "Top/Best" and including the current year, like "Top 10 Power BI Dashboard Examples of 2024".
We focused on topics that were both informative and timely, offering curated resources to our users. Think: "8 Essential Dashboard Design Principles for Effective Data Visualization" and "How to Select Colors for Data Visualizations?"
By following these tips and utilizing Medium as a platform, we've been able to further amplify our message and drive even more conversions. It's all about reaching the right audience with the right content!

Next steps
Understanding the impact of organic traffic and SEO, we're doubling down on optimization efforts for all our template blogs. Mokkup has over 150 dashboard templates (https://www.mokkup.ai/help/article/templates/) catering to various industries like HR, logistics, marketing, etc., and we're ensuring each description under these templates is SEO-optimized to scale.
We're also strategically placing CTA buttons on our blogs to make it easier for readers to click and convert effortlessly.
A quick word of advice for those diving into SEO and blogging: patience is key. It is really trite to say this but embrace the journey, and remember that every step forward is progress.
And hey, if you enjoyed this insight, stay tuned for more GTM strategies! I'll be sharing tips on leveraging free channels to boost brand visibility and conversions, along with valuable data points and insights from customer interactions in building Mokkup.

When “improving” is actually the wrong move
Validating an idea to help professionals reply safely to difficult work messages
That's wonderful, Pavel!
You know, it's not the tools you have. It's how you use them.
I just want to call out one thing that you said, because it's so important. "We quickly realized that blogs discussing AI and how Mokkup.ai aids in the BI development process were our shining stars." Kudos to you and your ability to realize this quickly.
This is a standard SaaS play that everyone should follow: focusing on the pain points of your ideal customer and how your product solves it.
One thing to note. Search Volume isn't everything. Bottom of funnel terms will naturally have less searches than top of funnel. Keep that in mind when doing keyword research.
Also, make sure you set the canonical tag on your Medium posts to let Google that your blog is the original source of the article.
Keep up the great work. Looking forward to hearing more!
