SEO vs PPC for SaaS:What’s Actually Worth It?

If you’re running a SaaS business, you’ve probably thought: SEO or PPC? Which one’s really worth it?

Here’s the thing—PPC (Google Ads, etc.) gets you quick traffic, but it’s pricey and only works as long as you’re paying. You could be burning through $40K-$60K in just a few months, and when you stop, so does the traffic.

SEO, though, is the opposite. It takes a bit more time upfront, but once it kicks in, you’re looking at steady, free traffic that just keeps growing. I’ve seen SaaS websites hit 1M+ impressions in as little as 6-12 months with SEO alone. No ad spend, just organic growth.

So, what’s better?
PPC is solid if you need instant results and have a big budget.
SEO is slower at first, but it keeps paying off without the constant cost.
If you’re looking to grow your SaaS without breaking the bank, SEO is a no-brainer.

BTW, I’m offering a free SEO audit for SaaS companies. I’ll take a look at your website, spot any issues, and give you a plan to help you reach that 1M+ impressions goal.

Just send me following details at [email protected] ;

    "Great breakdown of SEO vs. PPC! Totally agree—SEO’s long-term benefits make it a game-changer, especially for SaaS. That free SEO audit sounds like a valuable offer!"

    I'd say neither.

    1. PPC at best is cold interest targeting, which means you don't have a direct relationship to the person clicking the ad (because they're cold leads). Which means it will be more costly than anything you can do with warm leads. Unless you're at least breaking even, you're taking a loss with every ad.

    2. SEO (for any keyword with volume and competition) is expensive because building links is costly and the reality is nothing you do on-page can compete to a site with more authoritative backlink profile. On top of that, it takes a while before you get above the fold on page one.

      Whats your take and what has worked for you @clsmooth ?

      Facebook has worked as a channel for me, what about you?

        For me, it's been about networking. Finding the communities and influencers who have my audience and 'working my way in' or 'buying my way in'.

        Essentially, I build rapport with them enough to get featured on their platforms and then purchase ads against that exposure to more of their audience (sometimes through their own ad accounts).

    Great post. SEO definitely feels like the smarter play long-term, especially if you’re not sitting on a massive ad budget. I’ve been diving into stuff from Fortress SEO lately, some solid examples there of SaaS growth without relying heavily on paid ads. Slow burn, but it adds up.
