Set goals from roles.

People often talk about goals in silos.

Goals to only:
👩‍💻 Improve at work
🏋️‍♂️Become more fit
📚Finish more books

But there's a more effective approach.

It's simple yet transformative and I've been using it for years. Hope it helps you too.

✨The approach is "Goals from Roles".

Goals from Roles is a technique from 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (by Stephen Covey).

The idea is to simultaneously set goals that span multiple areas of your life because, in reality, all areas of your life are intertwined.

Specifically, you should list your ROLES in life and then set your GOALS from them.

For example:
👩‍💻Worker: send team report to manager
❤️Spouse: surprise dinner + wine
📖Learner: study mandarin
👩‍👩‍👦‍👦Sibling: buy gift for sister's birthday
☎️Son: call dad
🏋️‍♂️Gym rat: it's chest day

The power of this technique is that you advance in multiple areas of your life at the same time.

You also avoid the risk of succeeding in one area but lacking in another. Many people suffer from this.

👉Actions:

  • What roles have you neglected?
  • What goals can you set?
