I started a tweet thread almost 4 years ago with random ideas that I add from time to time.

Have a look and take or build off of any idea there.

I have an idea that popped into my head the other day and its simple - if you have a link from another site to your site you can give that first site a UTM code so you know when traffic comes from them to you and you will see it in google analytics but the reverse of that is trickier - bitly offers a special link you can give out where you can see this but bitly is mostly known as a url shortening service and it just seems to me that a service dedicated to just this reverse tracking would have room to exist in the market. Lets say I host guest posts and I want to see how many of their links get clicked and where people exit and how often. I cant unless I insert a special link in their post that first calls something that increments a counter and then redirects to the original link (which could be a utm link) in that guest post. Any way to make this simple and minimal might open up some interesting use cases and you would have room to say "this is all it does" a simple fix to a marketing and traffic attribution problem. With bitly you would have an account that you would log into to get these links and to see the click stats etc. Anything that is even less complicated than that would be where you would win I think.

Reposting from an earlier comment of mine...

Here are some of the recent marketing opportunities we've written about at Software Ideas:

    1) A weekend project that converts existing blog posts into high-quality Twitter threads.
    Issue 88, opportunity #1

This one is a really simple product for companies that already write blog posts but want to add Twitter-formatted versions of them. The process of doing so is usually very manual, since Twitter has a 280-character limit per Tweet, so it's not as simple as copy-pasting.

The approach here is to use AI to figure out how to optimally word each tweet, making the process automatic.

    2) A "software demo" solution for top-of-funnel marketing.
    Issue 72, opportunity #1

As software has become cloud-based, demos are becoming an increasingly popular way of showing leads the product and getting them into a sales meeting.

This idea is about making it easy for SaaS companies to create self-serve demo environments so users on a landing page can immediately get a feel for the software, while avoiding some of the challenges in this market around setting up sandbox environments and the like.

Here's an example of what a top-of-funnel demo looks like

    3) An influencer marketing solution for SaaS companies.
Issue 68, opportunity #3 (preview link)

Influencer marketing is becoming an increasingly important channel for modern internet marketing and advertising. It used to be that influencers were mostly associated with eCommerce, but market is starting to grow beyond that.

This opportunity is about building an influencer marketing solution that targets companies that have no idea how to go about building an influencer marketing program. By removing the barriers to starting with this marketing channel, the idea is that you can compete against existing tools that aren't quite as easy to get started with.

    4) A No-Code tool that lets marketers build "Engineering-as-Marketing" tools for their company.
Issue 60, opportunity #1 (preview link)

Another recent marketing channel is Engineering-as-Marketing, which sounds fancy but just means building small tools that act as lead magnets.

Compared to other marketing channels where the marketing team are the ones in charge of it, the downside to EaM is that the development team has to be involved in building and maintaining the product.

This idea is about building a No-Code tool for marketing teams so that they can regain ownership of the marketing channels.

    5) An API-as-a-service for hosting giveaways and sweepstakes.
Issue 59, opportunity #1 (preview link)

Lastly, this one is pretty self-explanatory: build an API that makes it easy to host giveaways and sweepstakes of any product across any (major) social media platform.

Giveaways are one of the best ways to drive new interest and awareness of a product or company, but the friction of getting started drives a lot of companies away from them.

This idea is about focusing on developer-friendliness and appealing to companies by saving development time and simplifying the process.
