It's 2018.

I send a Zoom link to a lead in Australia (at that time Zoom was unknown).

She jumps on the call. I'm trying to sell her a product I didn't build.

My English is broken, and I'm sweating in that tiny room in Osaka, Japan.

After 42 long and tensed minutes, she's in.

That was the beginning of a 3 year long SaaS.

That customer churned a few months ago, making $3500 my first ever $ online.

It was 2014 and I was working at a car dealership. I was learning PHP on the side in hopes of getting into tech and leaving sales behind. Our online reputation was terrible (duh) and we had just paid a company over 10k to "fix it" for us. It was basically a transactional email tool and simple landing page that would ask customers about their experience. Positive ones would be redirected to Google, Yelp, etc. Bad ones would be gated into a feedback form.

Took me about a month to code a replica. One differentiator was that my system was automatic, if the dealership gave me access to their CRM, I would manually export the list of sold customers for the day and import them into my system which would fire off the emails. The competitor required sales people to enter information and manually trigger the process.

I called it "quickreviews" and showed it to the general manager of my store. He wasn't all that impressed, he rather me be out there selling cars of course, but our marketing agency rep was there and contacted me later that day. He asked if I would white label it and have them selling as reputation management and my first ever SAAS was born.

I charged $299 a month per dealership while they marked it up to who knows what. They also allowed me to train a few employees how the export/import worked. Of course, not every dealership CRM was the same so there was some learning curve at times but almost all had an export feature and manipulating the data in excel wasn't all that hard.

My first year we had signed up 10 dealerships but the manual export/import became very tedious and a lot of the CRM companies started offering a similar service out of the box so business stalled. We shut it down in 2016.

I had some Google ads on colorsandfonts.com ...made 90 dollars ...in three months. Then remove them.

Built a saas and made 8k within one year and nd sold it.

It was 2018, I created an android app that got about 1M + install and I monetized it using Facebook ads. It was a fantastic feeling for me because that was the first $ I made online :)

I was 14, had just released some of my music online and somebody paid a few dollars to get a download. No need to say I was dead chuffed about it 😎

My first $ was made when the first WBE Space Member joined the community :)

Humbly, I literally started from scratch for a long time working on the Internet. The first profit from clicking on ads and watching them was a very symbolic number, but it was an achievement at that time, especially with the lack of the spread of the Internet in general and my young age. Now I have specialized in several fields and make excellent profits, especially in certain areas such as trade E-commerce, marketing and domain name trading

Cool thread idea! I'm old, so WAY back before the Google Adsense program there was another pay-per-click ads provider (I forget the name) and I put those ads on a small NES Roms website I ran at the time (cringe, I know). I think it made around $10 a month? This came mailed to my parents' place as a cheque that I then cashed. First internet money...was a great feeling!

I'm pretty sure my very first online earnings came from ads provided by link exchange. This would've been in the mid 90s. My second source of online earnings was probably selling stuff on eBay. I was also building websites at the time but I got paid for those with checks, so I don't count that as online revenue.

I think I built a simple landing page for someone. I was new to HTML/CSS so it wasn't for much.

I kinda regret it because I originally was trying to make money with my own products, deep diving into internet marketing and informational products. I never made money because it is/was hard to start. That small payment for web dev motivated me to push software skills and spiralled into a 15 year career. I'm thankful I learned these skills, but part of me wishes I'd stuck to marketing and products.
