Share your tips for using Google ads to test a landing page?

I am putting together a landing page for an idea I have, and a friend of mine suggested that I use Google ads to drive traffic to the page. I have never done this before. Does anyone have any advice on how to do this most effectively?

Thanks in advance!

    Hey Cindy,

Firstly, congrats! The most difficult is getting started.

With regards to Google Ads, the idea is the following:

    • you give Google a keyword and google will show your Ad to users that search for that keyword
    • you can specify that you want a broad search, or an exact search, meaning it must be exactly that search term

Now, this may seem like a bit more work, but you'll learn a lot. My suggestion is the following:
1 - Pick 10 keywords that are the most relevant for your landing page (forget volume right now)
2 - Create 10 ads, 1 for each keyword, making it as specific as possible. Bonus: you can create more than 1 Ad Copy for each keyword and let Google experiment with both of them to see which has the highest conversion ratio
3 - Set up the Ads on Google Ads and make sure you only choose exact match and other Audience selection (geography, language, age, etc.)
4 - Set a budget your comfortable with
5 - Launch and wait for some results

The next step is to see what's happening:
    a) Your Ad is not shown to many Users: your keywords are way to specific, try adding new keywords or experiment broaden the search (so, not Exact Match)
    b) Your Ad is getting views, but few clicks, so your CTR is very low: you need to change your Ad Copy so its more engaging
    c) You're getting views and clicks, but the users are not signing up to your landing page: the keywords you've chosen is not the most relevant, misleading or the landing page is not converting well for other reasons

You need to have analytics installed and tracking this correctly as well.

    Good luck!

Target competitor names and highlight why your product is better in the ad.

I don't know the current prices but for a first test run I would recommend Facebook ads since they are cheaper.

As said before. You should have a clear goal what you expect your visitors to do. Then break it down into smaller steps and track each on of them. On one of my landing pages I tracked the scrolling and it helped me to figure out which angle is working and which is not.

Most important. See it as an experiment. Don't expect a certain outcome. Instead make an assumption and test if it is true.

There are an infinite amount of youtube videos, udemy, and other paid courses but what it really comes down to is setting aside a large amount of money to play/learn with. There are so many points of failure that you’re not just going to spend $50 and acquire customers right off the bat.

Definitely start with YouTube videos to at least get a basic idea first

Make sure you've got proper analytics on the page to if it's successful or not. I've made that mistake before, otherwise I wouldn't comment something so obvious:)

I'm also curious about this. 👀
