Sharing TopFreeAI.Tools - Built to Scratch My Own Itch (and maybe yours?)
Hey Indie Hackers! Ben here.
Like many of you, I've been exploring the explosion of AI tools.
But I found it incredibly time-consuming to sift through endless lists and figure out which tools were genuinely free or had useful free tiers.
It's also frustrating when you need a tool for a one-off task but face monthly subscriptions.
Information overload and misleading "free" labels were constant hurdles.
💡 The Solution (我做了什么):
To solve this for myself (and hopefully others!), I built TopFreeAI.Tools: https://www.topfreeai.tools
It's a curated directory focusing only on high-quality AI tools that are either completely free or offer significant value in their free plans.
My goal is to save people time and frustration in finding the right free AI resource.
✨ Key Features (主要功能 - 简洁):
Handpicked & vetted tools (quality > quantity).
Easy search and filtering (category, pricing, features).
Supports 6 languages now(using Django i18n and the Gemini API for translation help!).
Includes an AI blog for news and tips.
🛠️ The Build:
I built this using Django and HTMX, which was a fun experience (happy to chat about that!).
The multi-language support involved integrating the Gemini API for automated translations, which was an interesting challenge.
The curation process is ongoing - finding and vetting truly free tools takes effort!
🌱 Current Status & Future :
The site is live now, and I'm actively adding more tools regularly.
