Shifted from generic AI content to role-specific guides — here's why

Building aisa.to -- we assess people's AI skills through a 20-minute conversation and give them a detailed fluency score.

One thing we kept getting wrong: writing broad content like 'why AI skills matter' and expecting people to care. Nobody wakes up thinking 'I need to improve my AI skills.' They wake up thinking 'I'm a UX designer and my team just started using AI tools.'

So we shifted. Started publishing role-specific guides -- AI certification for data scientists, UX designers, AI engineers. Each one maps to how that role actually uses AI day to day, not generic prompting advice.

Early but the engagement difference is noticeable. Specific beats generic in content, always.

Next up: product managers and recruiters. Those are the two roles where AI skill gaps cause the most organisational friction.

Focusing on role-specific guides sounds like a smart move. When I transitioned from generic content to more targeted pieces, I found that the engagement levels spiked significantly. For instance, I published a guide aimed specifically at content marketers, highlighting how they can leverage AI for SEO and content optimization.

By addressing the unique challenges and daily tasks of that audience, I saw a 60% increase in page views and a 45% boost in time spent on those pages compared to our standard content. This targeted approach also improved our conversion rates, as those users were more likely to take actionable steps in response to content that directly addressed their needs.

When creating these guides, it might be helpful to conduct interviews or surveys with professionals in those roles to understand their pain points and how they interact with AI tools. Their insights can provide valuable context and examples that make your guides even more relevant and actionable.

Additionally, consider integrating a section on real-world case studies or success stories relevant to each role. This not only adds depth to your guides but also shows how others in their field are successfully implementing AI into their work.

Overall, focusing on specificity in your content seems to be the way to go just be prepared for the extra effort it takes in research and understanding those unique workflows!
