Shopify App - Directory of Shops

Hey Friends,

I am having an idea of developing a shopify app that once installed on a shop it creates a directory entry of that shop on a listing website that I will create.

Along with the listing the shop owner will be able to show off their top sellers, new products, products on sale, discount codes, and public news letters.

The purpose of this directory is to generate leads to the shops using the app.

Does this seem like something I should go ahead and build?

Thank you.

At MVP stage, don't build this as an app. Just build an online form to get shop owners to sign up.

App development takes time. Okay, this is not a super complex app and you will build it in a couple of days. But getting Shopify to review and publish your app will take more days, maybe even weeks.

Why wait for so long when you can have a ready product in hours and start promoting it already tomorrow.

If you're an affilitate marketer - yes.

The success of this idea depends on how much traffic you can get to the website you're building and how much of that converts for the store owners. If you're not confident in your ability to do that then this is probably the wrong idea for you.

      @richdevelops
You raise a good point with this.

I have thought about it and its really something where the only solid plan I have is good onsite SEO which unfortunately may be not enough.

Perhaps its too huge of an idea if there is no extensive marketing strategy to make buyers aware of it.

Probably too many features for an MVP.

    What if you:
-Built the app to make the post on the listing website
    -See who signs up
-Ask them what they would like to showcase if they could only showcase 1. thing
    -Build that features

    Offering:
If listing on the new website does not generate new sales, subscribers will churn. That is the only reason they are signing up -- to gain more sales. Make sure you can track that.

      Hey @power,

      Thanks for this awesome feedback.

Sure the plan is build the first core feature and once signups start coming in i can have conversations with those user to find out what next feature they would like to be added in line with helping their businesses maintain existing customers and acquiring new ones.

      Thanks
