Shopify App Opportunities

With many Shopify Apps related posts in recent times, wanted to dig a little deeper into the opportunities by checking the kind of apps that are coming up in the store these days.

However, when I go to this link: https://apps.shopify.com/browse/all?sort_by=newest and see the first 250 apps, I still don't find any apps that have a meaningful number of installs.

They look like they're from all the categories, and a lot appear to be having good UI/pricing/functionalities as well.

What am I missing here?

Does Shopify make the number of installs publicly available?

They make the number of reviews publicly available but that's not always a good proxy. Some developers are great at chasing 5 star reviews and others are really bad. The last time I had a product it had 500 installs and 3 reviews (hint: I was one of the bad ones)

True, but even after going through the first 250+ apps, maybe a dozen of them have about 2-3 reviews. Makes me really wonder if they are having installs.

        Before you get too discouraged:

1/ You're looking at the most recently released apps. Try tracking how many apps Shopify apps approves per day. Was app 250 released 3 months ago or 3 weeks ago?

2/ 2-3 reviews could indicate 100+ installs. Until you know how aggressive they are at chasing reviews you'll never know.

3/ People will install your app just because it's in the app store but you still need to market it. App store listing optimization is the obvious one but there are other approaches.
