About to push our beta live and wondering whether to put it straight onto the main domain (.com) or a beta subdomain (e.g. beta.xyz.com)?

Yes. You are complicating. Just put it straight at .com and that can help you build the SEO as well. I was doing the same for Flezr

I would recommend going directly for a .com domain instead of using a subdomain.
Deploy it live if your product is 70% functional; this way, you will receive feedback and can improve the product accordingly.
