Should I ask my users for newsletter content?

Hey guys!

I am currently running a website that educates people about different kinds of analog film. Since the launch six months ago, I have collected 200+ email subscribers.

As of now, I have not taken advantage of it. Email lists are extremely powerful and I think it could provide a new monetization opportunity later on as well as a way to drive traffic back to the site.

The problem is that I am not sure what content I should send my users in order to provide value. I have read that you should only send out a sales-y emails every fifth email - so I need to find also a way to provide good meaningful content.

Do you think it would make sense to directly ask my subscribers what kind of content they want to see in the future by sending them a form to fill out? Any advice for questions?

I've seen lots of people curate links or products related to a specific niche. Tim Ferriss does that with 5 Bullet Friday. Austin Kleon does that as well.

After some time, you can start using on of the X things that you share with the list regularly to promote your own stuff.

      Thanks, just checked it out.

Seems like this is more on a personal note. However, the kind of curated content is definitely also relevant to me.

Thanks! Yeah that definitely makes sense :) I do have some ideas just wasn’t sure if I should validate them this way.
