Should I be doing sales?

I'm going to launch a cloud add-on on the Atlassian Marketplace. Problem is, the typical pricing structure of Atlassian cloud add-on doesn't reflect the value proposition of my add-on. Typically, add-ons charge a flat monthly fee for companies with ten or fewer users, and charge a fee per user per month over ten users. I think this would imply that each user gets value, but my add-on really brings each team value. However, if I don't adopt this model, I will have to forgo the benefits of being an Atlassian vendor as they provide licensing, invoicing, payments, and ease for my product.

I say, start with Atlassian until you have x customers. This way, you can get your early adopters with little marketing efforts, testimonials and have cash flow.
    Then, try the alternate way.

Janet, I'd love to help but don't really understand the question.

Are you more worried about whether you should be doing sales (instead of what else?), or whether you should accept Atlassian's recommended pricing model?

I don't quite get how those two questions are related :)

Should I be doing sales(invoicing per month) instead of using Atlassian's per month pricing model? The reason I'm asking is because the Atlassian pricing model doesn't reflect the value of my product. I think sales (invoicing every month) would reflect the value better, but it impacts my strategy pretty heavily.
I hope this clears things up.

I see sales at this stage more valuable for your discovery process and validating/understanding exactly the value that your product is providing.

Right now your assumption is that selling outside of the Atlassian marketplace will serve you better because of better price/value alignment for your customers.

Assuming that you don't have a lot of people beating down your door to get your product, I see your highest priority being able to acquire your initial customer base and having more conversations with potential customers over perfecting pricing/value alignment.

Would offering your product for a limited time/limited feature set for free be possible in the marketplace? Then you can do your customer development and decide when you have more data points.

PS Janet, I actually stumbled on your post title and later realized we met at a couple of IH TO meetups + Clojure North :)

          Thanks. this is good advice.

And I do remember you! Good to hear from ya :)

        Right.

Not the answer you're hoping for, but I imagine this is something you should just try out.

          Fair enough. thanks!
