Should I have a free plan or not?

I have a crowdsourcing app with info about companies. Each company page initially is a community wiki.

Now I am introducing billing plans, and in the free one, companies can update their information like company description, size, industry, addresses or logo. I know there is demand for this because regularly I get requests from Marketing of companies to change their information.

I feel like if companies can do this work by their own with low barriers, they stop boring me to add this info manually and the info in general can be more accurately.

However probably I am missing a huge way to monetize the app?

Please share your thoughts and comments on this.

It seems something like https://trends.builtwith.com/websitelist/EmailOctopus. They make pay people who want to access information. You can see a few pages for free and then you have to pay.

It depends on what value you're providing to whom. Just guessing, but sounds like a) you want the most correct data possible and b) you don't want to edit this stuff yourself. If so, seems like free edits make sense.

Would marketing people pay for a subscription to correct bad data? Is there something that would drive a lot of traffic/leads to them beyond data entry that you could charge for?

Your first guess is correct. Nevertheless change things like logo or description is a thing that is mainly static after they change the community wiki. My main bet to monetize Marketing departments is the reply to user reviews with a subscription plan to keep the replies public (enterprise plan). This is my first idea.

      • My doubt is if makes sense keep the free plan or just discard it and offer only a - Trial for the Enterprise with community wiki edit + reply to reviews. This probably makes sense since they can edit the info during the Trial.

      • Or at least transform the free plan in a fee to edit the wiki.

      Thank you
