I excitedly brought up Indie Hackers today to show my teenage kids the site and my new product page.
My son noticed that I was reporting my revenue as -$15 a month. I explained that we have to cover the monthly hosting cost and that we didn't have any money coming in yet. Hence the negative revenue.
He thought about it for a second and then exclaimed that we should start a Go Fund Me page. Before I could even respond, he continued and said that at we could use the money to fund my midlife crisis!
Funny, but your revenue is not -$15.
Revenue is "money in", while the "bottom line" is called profit (loss).
So your revenue is $0 and your profit is -$15.
Ah, thank you! I've updated my product page.
On the one hand, I'm a little embarrassed that I did not know this already. On the other hand, I sort of feel like I just made $15 a month! :-)
You should be proud that your kid knows more than just Fortnite. Discuss things with him more often and maybe it will pave the way to a consulting career.
Oh, he still plays plenty of Fortnite! :-)
But I agree 100%! I have included him by way of helping me test but I'm just starting to realize that there is so much more the kids can get involved with. And what a great way for them to learn, right?
Right. Kids are learning anyway, so the best thing you can do is to choose what they'll learn and provide a safe medium for that.
Made. My. Day.
Thanks ;-)
You’re welcome! :-)
Laugh! Quick wit and a good sense of humor ...
Yea, I was so shocked I couldn't even think of a comeback. Just had to shake my head and laugh!
You are a lucky Dad indeed!
Thank you. Agreed! :-)
Opinionated teenagers, eh? I like to share some of my stuff to my kids, even if they like to make fun of me!
Yea, both of my kids are actually a great source of feedback. Talk about brutal honestly! :-0
