Should I Pivot? 🤔

Early last month I got a ton of feedback from IH.

Thanks @rywils21, @wjakub, @nomis_mikah, @Goldriver, @May and @PierceNg.

So I started building.

On Thursday, I attended the UserList Virtual Meetup with @benediktdeicke, @uibreakfast, @volkandkaya, @Janiskelemen and a few others.

They said that I should launch with weekly reports instead of daily alerts.

So I built a basic proof-of-concept for reports.

Any thoughts? How can this be improved?

Should I pivot?

Any feedback helps.

Cool - if I got that email and assumed it was from a credible source, I'd click on those call to actions. Will I be able to see a before and after of the changes on the website? I don't have all of the context of what you are doing, but if I were to be a competitor of one of the listed websites I think I might be interested in a daily alert option; but otherwise weekly sounds good. Not sure what you are thinking of pivoting on, but the concept and mockup look intriguing. 👍

Thanks for checking it out. Here's an example of what before and after would look like:

      Is this what you meant?

Love the concept, why pivot? I'd push forward 🚀

      Thanks for the feedback Jeff!

Looks great! As @armgitaar says, it'd be cool to see illustrations (maybe at least for some of the cases). Also could experiment with making these reports more detailed, but splitting them one per industry. I.e. make them more self-sufficient and readable, without the need to click the links.

But again, the only way to learn is to get going 🙌

This is gold. Thank you so much.

I'll include illustrations in the reports and split them one per industry. Great ideas. The illustrations remove friction and most people will not care about other industries.

In terms of details. What else would you know like to know about competitor product changes?

      1. 1

        Awesome, glad this was helpful!

Re: other details, I think it's a place where we'd trust your judgment as a publisher :) The possibilities are virtually endless (let's not even mention SEO, etc) but it doesn't mean you should do it all, especially from the start.

          :) Once again. Great points

Who is identifying competitors? the user or are you planning on helping the user with that step as well?

    1. 1

      Yes :)

I'll identify competitors for them. This will be slightly inaccurate most of the time. So they can modify the list.

For example: A company that does CRM for Gmail may not consider a larger company like Zoho to be a competitor.

Founders/marketers will understand their businesses better than I do.

      Any thoughts on this?

      1. 2

I think identifying competitors adds a lot of value. After all, you don't know what you don't know and competitor research is difficult to begin with, given the 1000s and 1000s of products out there.

        1. 1

Thanks for this. The new landing page is almost ready. I hope it does a good job of conveying that I will identify competitors that they can adjust.

    Who's the user for this?
Did you try to target columnists in the niche for these? Like people that cover these topics and/or companies...

    1. 2

Hey. It's aimed at SaaS founders/marketers in competitive markets (with 10+ competitors)

Think customer messaging, email marketing, CRMs, podcast hosting, etc.

That's an interesting suggestion. Never thought about targeting columnists. I've thought of pitching stories to columnists for free press but never saw them as the customer. Hmmm....

      1. 2

Both sound valid to me with slight difference in filters, give both a go

        Sounds like very targatable groups

If you wanna give pivot a check, call the 2nd group so :p

          (Taking notes...) Thanks again!
