I’ve been reading books and watching videos, but I still don’t really understand what marketing is.
I can build products. But I often build things simply because I want to — not necessarily because people need them.
Is marketing about researching what people need before building anything?
Or is it about spreading awareness and promoting something after it's built?
I suspect the typical flow is:
Market Research → Build → Promotion
If that’s true, should developers like me be building under the direction of marketers?
I’d love to hear from marketers or indie hackers who’ve figured this out. Any frameworks or mental models would help a lot. Thanks!
Local Python scripts have a structural advantage in the current market: they're immune to the SaaS subscription backlash. No recurring costs, no vendor risk, no data concerns.
The positioning challenge is that 'script' sounds less polished than 'platform.' Worth double down on the positioning: 'the tool you own, not the subscription you rent.'
