My two cents: There are two types of people, the first one are "builders", usually developers or designers and they know how to make things work. Second type are "scalers", they know how to go from 5k MRR to 500k MRR.
So, the first one should make, and second one should buy.
P.S. And of course, there is a type that knows both, but they are already billionaires. 🚀
My two cents: Both are hard in their own way, as many have said. Buying for the first time is nearly harder than building.
I have done both and buying was a waste to be honest. I bought something I didn't know well and the learning curve was too much.
If you want to buy, the chances of you seeing something that fits into your skill set or vision is close to zero, so do you buy something in an industry you don't have passion, will it be successful?
I know the thought process of"DTC eCommerce, is the same for products X and Y", so maybe buying works for people who just want passive income and not grow something.
Building takes way more time and there is a fork decision there too (1) try and fumble through and hack it together with no code tools (as a sales guy, I did this for too long) or (2) go get an expert on upwork and pay for an MVP.
It always depends on your background and if you are alone or not.
As an example, I am a frontend developer with a backend dev as co-founder. That is a pretty good combination and so we decided to build ERA - The New Era Of Note-Taking on our own.
If you do not have the technical skills and want to get started, you can buy a product, outsource the development or find a technical co-founder.
Many scenarios depend on your background and needs.
IMO it depends on your background!
If you have never built one you should do it first a few times to understand what happens in every stage of a product. then after you have some experience building, you would be more comfortable buying.
But if you can't build one, maybe you can buy and learn from what you bought.

In my opinion buying is hard for beginners its good to start your own project and learn from then sell it after that you can buy . I have a friend of my mine we both own a dev agency criov.com but at the same time he build every month a saas after reaching a cretain mrr he sells , now he buys also but without this process its hard
