Should you offer a product trial?

I think this is key. That’s how you get people interested, as well as find problems with your product. Early user feedback is essential. Most people don’t want to pay for something from a company that has no authority so trial are often the only way for a small fish in a big pond to attract people.
Honestly, personally I think this is a great way to hook customers into your product. Offering a free trial not only allows customers to try your software but also gives them a reason to subscribe as they are already used to the software or have there date in there.
Hey Alessandro, Thanks for sharing:)
Offering a free trial is a cool idea, which is one of the effective strategies to promote your product.
Yes, we do. But the question is, is it appropriate to collect bank card details when using the trial or not? We are requesting data, but we think this is a barrier to using the trial. What is your experience?
Yes, but offer it with caveats. To specific cohorts you want to test product-fit, get testimonials and also conduct research

I think a free trial is a great way to get your product in the hands of early adaptors.
I think over all we should give free trial this implies on saas but as a dev agency owner its hard to do it
Amazing content! Thank you for sharing!
Hey!
I think the following 2 resources will be interesting in this case.
Reverse trials
SaaS Free Trial Extension Requests are a Bad Sign
I have a 1 day trial period enabled for my app, sms2img. For now it is free but I have been slowly adding in additional features that I plan to gate behind subscriptions
Great post, would love to hear more from other indie hackers here.
I believe a free trial helps in spreading word of mouth.
Would even go as far as saying that saas tools should have a forever-free version of their tool.
True
Let me tell you about my experience and opinion. I think it depends on the activity of the business. In some cases, a free trial period is simply inappropriate. For example, when the service provided already implies payment. For example, this if a marketplace for outsourcing scientific tasks, job search for freelance scientists and professionals. The commission is simply taken into account the cost of the project. It would be possible to make a subscription to such a service, which would give benefits to freelancers or contractors, but this is not appropriate. https://sciamp.com/
And some companies survive only on a free subscription. Usually these are small companies, people can subscribe and forget to tie the card, and thereby pay money.
Of course, this is a bad example.
But compared to the giants of the entertainment market - Netflix or Spotify, which don't offer a trial (in most regions) - they can afford it, as they have earned credibility in the past.
To get started, using a hook like a free subscription is a must!
Very interesting article, thanks!
@alemakers great article! I think that free trials are good for selling products indeed, but they're not for everyone. You need to onboard users carefully and have nice support systems in place. Plus, you need to remember that people will try the product for free and then consider upgrading. This will increase the sales cycle duration.
In my case, offering trials negatively affected my business because I hadn't ironed out all of the issues and this led to lack of trust in the product. Most advice says get the product on the market quick and then fix problems and in some cases you won’t know about the problem until users use the product anyway. But my experience showed that launching too quick with a free trial was not good. It took a lot of convincing to then gain trust from people who had previously used the product.
