Hello
I would like to get some feedback on using a .org domain for a profit venture
I always thought they were for non profits. But a quick google suggests they CAN also be used for profit ventures. What I would like to know is SHOULD they be used?
I don't want to mislead people into thinking that this is non profit venture. Is there still the general consensus that .org is non profit?
The .com which I want is not available.
My target audience is medics / doctors. I worry that they are not familiar with .io and may perceive as being less trustworthy than a .org
Also the .org domains are cheaper ($10 / year vs $50 / year for .io domains)
Thanks
I don't think there was ever a consensus that .org is non profit, but it does tend to communicate some kind of "do good" and "in service of the community" undertones. For that, I think some people tend to consider it a signal of trustworthiness, but you'll have to back that up with your delivery and actions.
Source: I've run a community-oriented for-profit that uses a .org for 14 years.
Thanks Alex.
I think you're right. It's a domain that a business needs to live up to.
That's true of any part of the business :)
