At Insiteful, nothing matters to us more than conversion rates. When we first released, dark mode was one of the very first new features we added!
Research has found that dark mode can actually boost conversions and reduce decision time significantly!
As a dark mode addict myself, I was wondering what the rest of the Indie Hacker community's opinion would be on this:
Should dark mode be included in "minimum viable" products (MVPs), or is it just a nice-to-have? Vote below!
Depending on the framework you're using, it can be trivially easy to add dark mode early on. As the developer no doubt spending many hours looking at the UI, it's beneficial even if you take user acquisition out of the equation. These days, unless I'm still in a super-early PoC stage, I always add dark mode as a core feature.
Absolutely!! I think it can be as simple as a couple hours or less (depending on what you're building with) to add dark mode, and it's an immediately noticeable difference :)
My app uses a combination which has been working great. Slowly moving into a lighter style I'm liking so we'll see. lol

Love it!! That was basically my exact same reasoning for adding dark mode to app.insiteful.co —plus we "dogfood" our product and it was starting to bother my eyes 😂
Can relate. I tend to be the first user of things I build, as they're normally created out of some necessity/desire. This means I really max out the hours spent looking at the UI (development time + user time). Dark mode, for me, is essential.
