Building a skill-gated prediction league for sports and would love early feedback
Concept: You make daily predictions, your accuracy is tracked over time, and your score controls what leagues and prize pools you can access. No whales, no bots just skill
The gating mechanic is interesting because it gives skill a real payoff. One watchout that gets missed a lot is cold start plus sandbagging, new users need an easy first unlock, and sharp users will optimize whatever scoring edge they can find. Clear scoring rules and a quick early win usually matter as much as the league features.
Using accuracy score as an access gate is a genuinely interesting mechanic — it aligns incentives without requiring a paywall. The people who unlock more features are the ones who’ve demonstrated they engage seriously, which also means they’re your highest-retention segment.
The risk is early frustration if the accuracy bar feels arbitrary or the first predictions are too hard to win. Onboarding calibration matters a lot here.
Building flompt taught me that gating features behind demonstrated engagement (vs. just time or payment) creates much stickier users. Good design direction.
