Show IH: CompactJPG – 100% private image compression, powered by WebAssembly

I'm excited to share my latest side project: [CompactJPG](https://compactjpg.com), a free, browser-based image compressor that never uploads your files anywhere.

### Why I built it

I was tired of "free" online tools that force you to upload images to a server just to compress them. I wanted something that respects privacy, works instantly, and doesn't nag you with ads or sign-up forms. So I built it myself.

### What it does

- Compresses JPEG, PNG, WebP, and GIF files right in your browser.

- Uses WebAssembly (MozJPEG, OxiPNG, libwebp) to achieve near-TinyPNG quality.

- All processing happens locally, inside Web Workers — the UI never freezes.

- Supports batch compression and downloads everything as a ZIP.

- Available in 8 languages (English, 中文, Español, Français, Deutsch, 日本語, Português, Русский).

- Includes a before/after comparison with pixel-level zoom and drag.

### Tech stack

- Vanilla JS (no frameworks)

- Vite + Tailwind CSS

- @jsquash for WASM encoders

- Hosted on Cloudflare Pages

### My goal

I wanted to ship a complete, production-ready tool that's genuinely useful and privacy-first. No tracking, no cookies, no ads yet. If it gets enough traction, I might add a paid API or premium features later, but the core tool will always be free.
