Show IH: Fest Tribe, get introductions 👋 to people going to the same music festivals as you
Hi everyone!
I just finished the MVP for my latest project I've been working on -- Fest Tribe.
The idea is pretty simple:
- Enter some basic information about yourself
- Add festivals that you'll be going to
- Get email introductions to other people going to the same festival
I'm looking to launch this by posting in different facebook groups and reddit pages tonight.
I was inspired by Kismet, made by a fellow Indie Hacker (thanks Jeremy! article here: https://www.indiehackers.com/forum/from-idea-to-revenue-in-5-working-days-335ce5927f )

I'll be going to a festival this summer. I only decided to go because friend group was going. Maybe target people who want to go to festivals but do not have friends to go with?
Nice! That's definitely what I'm going for. Which festival are you attending if you don't mind me asking? Making sure I have all the main festivals covered.
Hm, seems interesting.
One question that comes to my mind is whether or not people actually are looking for people to meet at festivals. Do people going to festivals currently try stuff to find people to meet? Like maybe posting on Facebook to see if they could get set up with a friend of a friend or something? What about in similar contexts, do people in similar contexts seek out people to meet?
Another question that comes to my mind is what an optimal solution would look like. Would something like Facebook that has such a huge amount of users be best? Or would something smaller like Fest Tribe be better, because you know people who sign up there are, sort of a curated group of people. By signing up, they indicate that they are more passionate about festivals and meeting new people, so maybe there's value in a smaller platform for that reason.
I think it's worth noting that you'll be faced with a chicken-egg problem: who wants to join a platform with no one cool already on it? Maybe it'd be good to start off focusing on a particular small region of people, probably a region that has lots of festivals. That way, it'll be easier to achieve a critical mass. If you could achieve a critical mass in one region and have success there, maybe that'd be enough to raise money and make a push towards expanding, because network effects seem big with this.
Starting off in one region is easier said than done though. Do you enjoy festivals yourself? Is it possible for you to sort of insert yourself into the community, make a bunch of friends, and maybe get a lot of early adopters that way?
Yep, they do actually. I'm a part of a few festival groups on facebook and people will post their snapchat / instagram handles to meet other people. I've also been a part of a large WhatsApp group of other people going to a festival. It's useful for people who want to go to the festival but can't find anyone else willing to go. There's also already an app called Radiate that connects people going to festivals too, so I think the market is validated there since it's pretty active.
Which types of contexts are you thinking?
Facebook does work to meet other people, but I don't think everyone is willing to randomly spark up a conversation with another person unless they knew the other person was also interested in doing so.
That's what I'm trying right now -- focusing only one or two festivals at a time so that a group of people going to the same festival will be able to meet.
Yep I do! I try to make it to a couple festivals per year.
That's one possibility.
