I woke up this morning and since it's raining out and will be all day I decided to launch For Sale By Maker on Product Hunt:

This was my second entry to the Product Hunt Makers Festival and I wrote about the process of building it on my blog:

The main idea was to use Product Hunt as a filtering mechanism, only listing projects that were featured on Product Hunt to easily maintain a level of quality not found in most other marketplaces.

The problem with these sites, in my eyes, is always quality. The listings always end up being low quality and it makes the service come off as cheap. To be honest, none of the sites currently listed are even remotely interesting, and they don’t seem to be making any revenue. Buyers don’t really care about votes, ratings, etc. — they care about return on investment.
That definitely one use case, but I've noticed a trend of people buying struggling projects that they can revive. In those cases seeing validation from a Product Hunt feature can be very helpful.
As long as buyers and sellers are reasonable in terms of the price it can be great for both parties.
I guess we'll see how the project turns out long term! 😀
