Show IH: GrepMed - Unbundling Instagram and Pinterest for the Medical Education Space

Hey IndieHackers!

I'm Gerald, a physician and former software engineer trying to claw my way back into the software space.

We created GrepMed, an image based medical reference and sharing platform for clinicians.  We're leveraging images (algorithms, checklists, etc) to shortcut the information retrieval process for busy doctors who are inundated by text information overload.

Some recent highlights:

  • Over $1k MRR (ads)
  • Our newly integrated non-clinical jobs board just had it's first organic sale last week!
  • Currently finalizing our first direct ad sale for $2500/month.  This is a recruiting ad for a large national physician group which is a much more aligned partnership than shilling pharma ads.
  • Crossing 26k IG / 22k Twitter followers
  • Over 14k images uploaded by our community to our platform.

Some Challenges:

  • Significantly under-monetized for our level of traffic (Jobs board is an attempt to fix this).
  • Motivation burnout when pulling 14 hour shifts during COVID surges
  • 50% traffic and emotional swings with google algorithm changes.
  • Escaping the golden handcuffs of medicine, trading time for money.

It's been fun building something that scales, unlike most of what I do in medicine. We like the idea of unbundling Instagram in a way that has some utility rather than a time suck that kills your self esteem. We're looking at exploring other verticals (ie veterinary med) that can build upon this concept. Would love any feedback!
