[Show IH] Launched a Free 1-Click Text-to-AI Image Chrome Extension — Would Love Your Feedback
Hey Indie Hackers!
I’m an indie maker, and over the past couple of months I’ve been building a small Chrome extension called Doitong Text to Image. The idea is super simple: you highlight any text on any webpage, right-click, and instantly generate an AI image based on that text. Basically, I wanted a ChatGPT-style experience, but for images.
This started as a tool for myself — I make YouTube videos and write blog posts, and I often need quick visuals for thumbnails, posts, or articles without having to jump to a separate site or tool. With this extension, you can generate images right from any page, in just a couple of clicks, with no design skills needed.
Why did I make this?
- I make content for YouTube and blogs, and I got tired of searching for the right images
- Wanted to automate a repetitive part of my workflow
- Other tools I tried were either clunky, slow, paid, or had annoying watermarks
How it works:
- Install the extension
- Highlight any text on any website
- Right-click → Generate AI Image
- Instantly get a ready-made image (you can choose square, landscape, or portrait format)
The formats are optimized for Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, posters, wallpapers, etc.
The plugin is 100% free, with no watermarks or restrictions (at least for now).

I like this. It does exactly as you describe. A simple extension. Highlight the words you want the image to represent, right click, select the extension, select the image size, and your image is created.
However, the images I received all had variations of the words I highlighted within the image. I can see how this works for many uses, like YouTube video thumbnails. But sometimes you want a visible interpretation of the image and not just the words overlayed on e.g. a chart.
I was also told my credits were low after creating a handful of test images, where above it says it is free.
Thanks! Yes, unfortunately, after launching in free mode, it became very expensive to support the project on my own, so I had to introduce a limit on free credits and combine credits from the extension and the main doitong.com platform...
