Show IH: Leantime - Project Management for Startups

I signed up and had a look around because I'm in the market for this sort of thing. A bit of lightweight project management with time tracking to manage a client project while at the same time doing R&D for our own product and managing the roadmap plus development effort.

Ultimately I couldn't say yes to this product though there is a lot I do like about it. We currently use GitHub projects KanBan board which you can flexibly define what columns you need and projects don't need to run in tightly defined sprints. We've iterated on a couple of different layouts and finally found one we just love for our designer/developer git workflow and leantime.io is a little too opinionated to be able to handle that. Which I think is kind of a shame. I get that it's an opionated PM tool but zero flexibility is not an opinion I can get on board with given the structure of our client projects can differ a little from those of our product R&D. Cos the GitHub projects thing is too light weight on its own, so I'm on the hunt for alternatives. I love the research management side of things. We just Chuck that in a Google doc at the moment but that's hard to build a nice process around and I dislike digging through Google docs to find which damn document it's all in, so just aren't doing a good a job at that as we could and I think it's pretty vital. Plus time tracking for client projects is a very real need I'll have to solve soon. I felt the time tracking on leantime.io was adequate. I didn't love it but I understood it fairly quickly and for a small team with Max two or three things on the go it seems manageable. I didn't dig the roadmap feature. I was expecting more Trello style thing where I can note down future feature ideas and drag and drop to order them. It just looks like a Gantt chart where I can type the name of the feature but I also have to enter the exact dates in the future I'm going to start and finish building them but I'm not a psychic and it's roadmap of a product we may pivot at any time, so not only do I not know when exactly they will be built but even if. Maybe others have a nice use case for that exact style but I didn't.
