Oh, anything dealing with Python I can be helpful but stuff around PHP/WordPress just makes my brain go offline.
I only know very basic stuff about WP plugin development which was mostly from some online tutorials. No clean structure and approach made me run away from it.

PHP is a good language and easy to pick up, but things can get messy quick go out of control.
In WP plugin development, things don't seem to be well integrated.

@Malik yeah, forum software is pretty simple to create as long as you keep it simple.
I've build bunch of them in the past, but very simple ones, because I didn't want to use feature bloated solutions.
If you'd like to have a flexible and very good looking forum, I'd recommend Flarum, the same one we're using as GoNevis Forums. Looking at the extension and the integration it looks it should be pretty straight forward to build more upon it.
