Show IH: Montein - Q&A Event Tool

Hi All,

I've been lurking on IH for the past few weeks and decided to join and share a side project I'm working on: https://montein.web.app/.

Montein is a Q&A tool that allows participants to ask and upvote questions in real-time. Event organizers can moderate questions and learn which questions to vote on.

The product is free and is pretty barebones right now. I'm planning to add more features down the road (>1 moderators, email authentication, editing questions, etc.) and develop a monetization strategy (most likely on rate-limiting).

For those interested in the tech stack, I built this using React + Firebase + Material UI.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback or questions about the product. I plan to iterate quickly before I publicize on other platforms (i.e. Hackernews, Reddit, ProductHunt).

    Hello @ruthless,

I just tried to sign in as guest and created an event and a question. Pretty simple to get started. Congratulations on the steps taken.

Had a couple of questions though,

    1. Who is your target segment? Is it event managers, or individuals conducting online sessions/events more from a business perspective (and not personal events like birthday parties and stuff cause there may not be a need of Q&A there, isn't it)?

    2. Was wondering since Q&A is part of an event, won't that target segment already be using some event management tool, so does your product complement that? Will people use a separate product for Q&A?

    3. Are you planning to provide integrations with other tools?

    4. How do you intend to socialize this? As in, your first set of test customers.

Thought such questions will help you in nailing down the scope and defining the usefulness of the product.

      Thanks for the feedback @prettycold!

      1. I initially aimed to have either teachers or panelists/presenters to leverage the tool. These individuals present content to an "audience" and often receive the same questions from multiple people.
      2. In general, events management tools are mainly focused on registering and signing up all the members. I am not too familiar myself on an end-to-end platform that handles Q&A. I wanted to focus just on Q&A and provide the best service in that particular area and potentially expand to other parts of the event.
      3. Haven't thought about integrations with other tools. What did you have in mind?
      4. That's the tough part :). I aim to find either teachers (within my network or other networks) or group organizers (public events on zoom) to see if they want to try it out.

Okay...Now I see your thought process, initially, I was only thinking of it as a feature in an event management app. My bad :(

I was just looking at a few other Q&A tools in the market and I came across Mentimeter and slido. Now I get a better idea of the scope.

Just thinking aloud, probably, schools may be a good target segment to start with, as I have seen Mentimeter being used in my kid's school in all their orientation programs or any such meetings.

Infact, this product has a broad scope. See where your network is and try that domain first and then move on to a bigger audience.

        Wish you good luck!
