Show IH: PageMagic demo - edit website content from the browser.

Hi Indie Hackers,

I posted my new service PageMagic here about a week ago, and got some great feedback - thanks! One comment I got a lot here and in other places is folks would love to see a live demo for themselves, so I built one:

DEMO - click the blue edit button on the bottom right of the page to edit and save.

New content will be saved to your browser session so will remain if you refresh the page. I wanted to be able to show how easy and lightweight it feels to update content using PageMagic - let me know what you think?

(If you used PageMagic on your own site, only you will be able to edit the pages, and everyone else sees the new content, not just you.)

    Hello Justin!!
    As a static website fan, I got very intrigued by your idea. However, I don't understand how it works. In principle the data is going to be stored by you?

      Hi Aquiles!

      Great question! The edited data is stored by me, and is loaded onto the website as the page loads. Does that answer your question?

        Hello Justin!
        Yes, it does. I like your idea, however I don't like the idea of losing control over my data. You are basically offering a hybrid between static websites and Wordpress. What happens if your service goes down? My visitors will see outdated pages?

    Wow. This is really cool. Congrats on launching!

    A few questions:

    • How does this affect SEO?
    • What happens if I want to 'export' the changes I made with PageMagic (in case we decide to stop using it, for example)?
    • Let's say I have an <a href="some-other-domain" class="editable">{{ old CTA }}</a> element. Someone from marketing wants to change the CTA from {{ old CTA }} to {{ new CTA }} - can they do that or will clicking on the element to edit it load the new URL?

      Hi Louis! Those are all great questions!

      • I specifically optimized and tested PageMagic to make sure that new content changes are indexed by Google. So you're safe there. Some of the simpler search engines (E.g. DuckDuckGo) may not index the new content, but Google definitely does.
      • This is a good idea, and would be very easy to make - thanks :) Incidentally, something I haven't promoted yet is that the entire edit history of each page is stored too, so you can undo changes or re-store the contents of the page from a previous version.
      • Great question! In edit mode, I disable <a> tags to avoid this issue so you can click links to edit them without actually changing pages. Once you leave edit mode then the link gets re-enabled.

        I'd definitely expand on those two points somewhere on your LP. My first thought as a developer when I couldn't find this was "but, version tracking..." and as the guy who pays the credit card bill each month I was worried about a hostile lock-in :)
