Simple Directory is the Smartest Move for Indie Hacker Beginners

I've been a Python/Django freelancer for years, but I only started my indie hacker journey a few months ago, I noticed a pattern that I think is worth talking about.

As beginners, many of us spend too much time on building apps that nobody might needs. If you're just trying to hit that first $1,000, building a curated directory site might be a better idea.

It’s way simpler because there’s almost zero technical overhead. You spend your time on distribution rather than coding yourself into a corner. It also forces you to do real market research. You can't curate a good list without deeply understanding what's missing in your niche.

Plus, it's a great way to build an audience you actually own—which makes launching a real SaaS much easier later on.

Actually, I have seen Marc Lou, levelsio on Twitter and many other famous indie hackers also built many great directory sites.
