If Google Analytics is too complicated or you don't want to go through the pain of setting it up, here's a simple marketing hack to attribute newsletter sign-ups:
Like many of you, I'm building a SaaS & write a newsletter to build our audience. My email provider has a built-in referral system, which gives every subscriber a unique referral link, & lets you easily see how many referrals each subscriber has.
So...I subscribed multiple of my email addresses to my newsletter, to get multiple unique referral links.
I use different referral links in my Twitter bio & on my website, & BOOM I can instantly track how many sign-ups I've gotten from each source.
Waaaay easier to set up than Google Analytics, & let's be honest, unique referral links are much more reliable than Google Analytics anyways, IF your email provider even integrates with Google Analytics at all.
This method won't track conversion %, but it's perfect for quickly identifying which channels you should be prioritizing.
If you're really scrappy, this method would even work for product sign-ups, wait list sign-ups, etc., not just a newsletter!
Btw, if you like business ideas & marketing hacks like this, you'll enjoy my weekly newsletter where I share a new product idea & how I'd launch it:
