Introducing you Maili (https://maili.io) – an online tool that turns your email into a short link.
Every each of us at least once in our lifetime have posted a story on Instagram 📱 that included an email (whether for an upcoming job application or event/ gathering) however we’ve never seen a high response rate, only because people had to remember mails and switch between applications to write one.
This is the story of how Maili was born 👶 I wanted to help a friend by posting a story for an open job position at his company, however I struggled to attach the email to the story (on Instagram you can only add 🔗). I spent the next 20 minutes googling, trying to find the tool that will help me turn my email into a link that I would add to a story, however all of the results were on how to add an <a href=”mailto”> to a website.
At that moment I was surprised that I could not find a tool simple as this one in today’s world. That’s exactly when we decided to build Maili, to help you get a higher conversion rate 📈 on your Instagram stories that include email.

Looks cool. I'm just wondering if you're planning to add link management and link history feature, It would make a lot of sense to scale later.
Yes the idea is to test and see whether people will use it as it is and then add additional features.
I'm curious to hear how would you imagine the links management & history to work? We are also planning to display the number of clicks per link.
Do you also plan to add a custom link feature?

@salisu wow that's a nice suggestion! Definitely will take that into consideration and should add one - the only problem would be that we might require the user to create an account if he wants to do that because only in that way we can be assured that he will have access to the link and it's analytics at all times.

I think it is ideal for anyone to know track how far their email is going. So, as long as the signup process can be compressed to 5 seconds, then awesome.
My marketing sense is grasping something with this 'promotional' tool, fast conversion with a sponsored ad. You could enable a feature that sort of pastes a custom message in your email box for the person that clicked to save stress and make faster conversions/enquiries. Sure, Let me elaborate.
Link management:
Real-time Analysis -> i) Link tracking system that can allow track of how and from where the audience is coming and engaging. ii) Tracking could provide CTR, Platforms from where the link is generating clicks. iii) Referrers, device, and maybe browser and geolocation!
History -> Keep a record of all the links generated (CRUD)
Yeah definitely this can be implemented, and I believe it also connects with my comment from above - for these features to be available, it would require the users to sign up.
We could do a version where we do not require them to sign up and they get only the generated link, and on the other side if they register they will get access to real-time analysis and history as well as maybe creating a custom link feature.

Yes, versioning could be a good choice, or you can implement the new edge "Magic Link" feature too. Further monetize the advanced features with paywall.

Haha! It's a bit tricky, but maybe $ 3 to $5 per month.
Yeah I was thinking $2/$3 might be reasonable - and would you keep it per month as a subscription or a one-time fee?

This is a really cool tool, I think I am gonna use it quite a lot.
Just a side note: It looks like you are not using client side validation properly on the email input field.
I could do multiple api calls by submitting without even entering any value.

I might be being a little dense but it's not clear to me how this is meant to be used. Is the user meant to click on the link and have the email address revealed in the maili.io UI? I tried adding an email address and it did give me a link back, but I don't know what to do with it. 🤷

I am sorry a lot if that was not clear enough for you! Just changed the title so it's a bit more self explanator, what you have to do is - Enter the mail, copy the generated link and share it on social media. Let me know whether this title helps more 🤗

No problem, I think I should have been more clear. When I click on the generated link (or paste it into the browser), I just get taken back to maili.io. There's no way to access the corresponding email address.
Is it clear enough now? I'm sorry, there was a function that after it opens your default email client it redirects you back to the home page, I just commented that out - could you please check now whether it works?
Unfortunately not. I guess it doesn't work on Linux? I tried in Firefox and Chrome. No dice. I have a default client set but it doesn't open it.

Well it was built to solve the issue that you are not able to post an Instagram story with a clickable email that drives more leads into your email, but along the way thanks to the IH community discovered that it will also help with preventing bots from crawling your email address when you share it.

Just wanted to give feedback that I first thought you are converting an actual email to a link and not an email address. This became obvious later, but still, if someone just reas the first part they might misunderstand :)

I created a link for a temp email: https://maili.io/WEpf but on opening the email it opens the Maili homepage again instead of allowing me to send an email.

Do you have a default email client? I just clicked the link you mentioned in the comments and it opens the mail.

Yes, I'm using a mac and have the Mail app as the default email client.
Just tried on mobile and it is working properly. For some reason, it is not working on the desktop (tried in chrome browser).
Looks like that on Linux and Mac it's not working properly.. Will dive more into this and fix the issue :)

This is very niche, but it’s also very good.
Also, href email links for some reason sometimes get messed up with “mailto:” being part of the pasted email address. This solves that, too.

Exactly @zoftwarengineer by using this tool it will also help people protect their emails from bots and getting crawled. It's going good for now - we launched 2 days ago and have more than 300 emails generated through the tool, planning on putting it on TikTok/ Reels to gain more traction.
