When I started to build products and build an audience, I was trying to be everywhere. You would find me everyday on Telegram, Twitter, Reddit, Showwcase, Instagram, Facebook..., you get the point. Then, I got advice from two friends with years of experience and success in this world. They told me to simplify to amplify.
Here's the point they made me see.
Do you really need to personally and constantly advertise your product in ten places? Do you really want to build five different audiences in five different platforms?
Is it efficient? No. Is it tiresome? Absolutely. Does it yield better results? Not necessarily.
When you think about a successful creator, do you picture him on a specific platform, or on ten at a time? When you find a cool designer, do you follow her on every social media platform, or just one or two?
I get it, it's pure statistics, if you are everywhere, more people will find you. Except, that's not the case, When you are everywhere, you are wasting more energy and people don't really 'follow' you, they just stumble upon you. On the other hand, if you choose, at most, a couple of places to be, and a couple of mediums to reach your audience, you save energy and get real followers, those that go where you are.
It's a simple concept. In spanish we have a saying for that. It roughly translates to: "He who grasps too much, can not squeeze hard enough". Makes sense, right?
I'm implementing this on my own efforts to build an audience, a tribe, and on getting my products to reach people. Its not a magic formula and it's not easy to choose, but its way better that what I was doing before. Personally, I chose a Telegram channel as my main platform, and a few others as secondary, and it's going fine. I get more followers and interactions, and less stress, great!
Try it, and you may find yourself being surprised.
