Slack or Discord?
Hey, everyone.
I want to build a community for HR people about remote work.
Not sure, what platform to choose.
Slack is common, but not really community-oriented
Discord is built for communities, but not common across HRs (hypothesis)
What do you think?
Slack. For 1 reason only: You get the emails from your members. You don't get the emails with Discord.
Slack - much better notification system. Comes across as much more professional.

Slack if it’s mainly just conversations. Discord if the history actually matters, like resource sharing. GitHub Discussions for debugging and other issues.
It seems like almost everyone is rooting for Slack!
Any Discord fans here?
I use both, but I much prefer Discord. The teams I work with are never in the same location at the same time, so getting on Discord voice chat is critical to our productivity and creating a sense of community. (Does Slack have a voice chat function in its paid tiers? I've only used the freemium.)
We use discord at Videodeck. We were all on Discord before starting the company and it didn't really make sense to move to Slack.
We even onboard clients on our Discord channel and it has been working pretty well. :)

+1 for Slack! Much better interface and is well-known in that niche.

For HR people I'd suggest Slack as they would be used to using it. Discord has a bit of a learning curve that most people aren't willing to do spend time on.
I prefer Slack.
Discord feels unprofessional to me and I also like receiving emails from members in the group. Also, most of my clients are already using it.
When building my community (WBE Space) a lot of people told me to use discord because of the integration. However, I knew that a lot of the indie makers are more used to slack (they already use them in their companies) so I went with slack. I am super happy with the decision!!
PS: Slack has threads and discord has not ;)
Discord actually does have threads now. Relatively recent update, but they're there!

Slack is a bit more professional but discord can be quite comfortable for users and to build commuities
I'm a user to both software. But here are my takes on it:
Slack - more professional, easier to use (and invite), updates you through desktop notification and emails. Cons, if you have more take on 'media,' it has less take on that part.
Discord - you'll have more advantage in terms of creative media like music, video, and images. But, it'll take time to familiarize with all the buttons, labels, and channels. Plus, there's no email notification that will update you when you're not active.
I would say go where your target audience already is comfortable. There's less friction that way.
