Small ASO mistakes that quietly kill conversion

I started learning ASO by analyzing real apps in German App Store instead of just reading about it.
One thing surprised me:
A lot of apps aren’t bad — they’re just not convincing.
I recently broke down a fitness app in the weight loss category, and found:

  • No real hook in the first lines of the description
  • Title and subtitle repeating the same keywords
  • Unclear positioning (feels like it’s for advanced users, but doesn’t say it)
  • Keywords that don’t fully match actual search intent

None of these are critical on their own.
But combined? They quietly kill conversion.
What surprised me most:
Even apps with thousands of ratings still have these issues.
So instead of rewriting everything, I’m focusing on small but high-impact changes:
→ sharpening the hook
→ clarifying the target audience
→ aligning keywords with real user intent
→ turning features into benefits

I’m documenting what I learn as I go.

Curious to hear from others building apps:
What’s been your biggest lever for improving conversion?
