SmallPDF Cancellation Anti-churn/Growth Hack

SmallPDF is pretty great app for PDF manipulation like merging, splitting and converting. I don't want to subscribe because I don't edit PDF that often. When I tried to cancel, I got this pop up.

I think that's a good anti-churn/growth hack. Not sure how well that's working out for them.

They got me on sales navigator with this 😭

The thing about that is if I had paid full price, but then discovered that the discount was an option then I'd be a pretty annoyed customer.

That's a very good idea, actually.

Comcast/Xfinity used to be very easy to manipulate with this method a long time ago. And to an extent, it works. I always had the philosophy: always be willing to walk away. So you call them up... you want to cancel... you say, I'm just not liking my service.. I just want to cancel.. they come back at you.. okay how about we knock off $15 off your bill for the next 3 months concurrently. So Xfinity loses $45 but they know I won't be calling back to get another discount in 3 months because they won't do it.

In addition, I'd probably add something like, "This is a one-time offer" to make the urgency. Sure you'll get 3 extra months out of someone at a discounted rate, but chances are... they'll keep using the product after that. And if they don't, they weren't sticking around anyway.
