A mini update. A small win. Have been talking to people.
Found 3 people who at least share the same problem (overlapping pain points) when it comes to handling portfolio in a spreadsheet. But, no idea if the solution I am proposing is good or useful. But, at least I am talking to people who share the problem! Happy to chat, if anyone else has the same problem.
Checkout the problem I am solving at https://investmentsheets.com/
But, it's fun talking to people, instead of coding alone!!!
3 people are...
Thanks @doomhammer for the informative DM over Twitter!
@doomhammer Thanks for subscribing to the launch list. My first subscriber outside my immediate network! Very special. Thanks, will keep you posted!
Happy to help a fellow Indie Hacker. Especially if I'm helping myself this way as well :D
Thanks again. Will keep you posted.
Interesting one - I also use Google Spreadsheet to track my own portfolio. This is def going to be useful to many people who trade/invest outside of their job.
Just by looking at your landing page, what's something you offer that is different from my own model? Curious!
@jessicaleo for the idea validation. Super helpful. Sorry for the lengthy post.
Couple of differences (I hope, yet to build and validate the prototype).
Idea is to automate the backend fully, and keep the spreadsheet facade for now (it's easy for beginners, and I don't want to full UI just yet, faster iterations). This means anyone can configure few metrics and just see them automatically change every day (saves about ~10-15 min, even in the best managed spreadsheet scenarios). Agreed, this takes fun out of dealing with spreadsheets (I am someone who has fiddled with such custom spreadsheets ~1hr/day for last 4 years out of passion). But, my guess is it enables the same person (like me, you) to be more profitable based on data and hopefully more productive (this is an unproven hypothesis at this point).
This could bring more people like us into the equation, by reducing the barrier to entry. Ex, there are some of my friends who are top notch engineers (best technical brains), dev managers, who still have not automated sheets but have been thinking about it for a few years (due to knowledge gap or frankly lack of time, it's very tedious to maintain these sheets).
Would like to learn more about your use case & how you manage your spreadsheets. I could reach out, if you could share your email with sgdheeban@gmail.com or alternatively sign up here,

Sounds pretty good to me! Saving time + faster way to get to value = useful! Now just need to validate by finding early users! Support!
@jessicaleo Yup totally agree, which is what I am working towards. One question am grappling with - any idea where I could find this audience systematically (agreed I am wishing for a silver bullet)? To me this seems like an underground network, trying slowly on Twitter, Reddit, IH (here), FB groups.... but are you aware of any other scalable way?
Great work! What are your next steps?
Thanks @TalkToStefan first of all your startup idea is very interesting. Very subtly powerful. Let's chat if you have time, to see if I can be of some help to you. If you could please email sgdheeban@gmail.com or alternatively sign up here, I can contact privately by email to learn more. https://investmentsheets.com/
To answer your question. Next steps, I set up one such template for my friend and managing it manually and in parallel building the backend to automate the sheets for a MVP.
Thanks for your kind words, I've sent you an email.
Excellent, sounds like you're pretty clear! :)
