Snapchat ADs for podcast promotion

Hey IH!

I'm the founder of Failory. A week ago we launched The Failory Podcast interviewing founders of failed startups. In those same days, I received a newsletter email from Neil Patel (not sure why I am subscribed) offering a $100 credit in Snapchat ads so I decided to give it a try.

I was quite skeptic about Snapchat ADs at first as I thought it wasn't a great fit with our audience, but it turned out to work really well. People mainly listen to podcasts in phones and Snapchat is only used in phones. It also has great segmentation by locations, age, gender and interests, and almost all combinations have a huge amount of users, so it can be a great fit for any kind of podcast.

I segmented by male, 25-35, iOS and with interests in entrepreneurship and businesses. As for location, I divided into two segments: by states (New York, California, Florida, and Washington) and by ZIP codes (especially San Francisco, NY's financial district, etc). As for the creatives, I'm using this and this one.

While running the campaigns, I was offered $75 free if I spent $50. However, I then found that if you activate that offer, you can finance that $50 investment required with Neil Patel's credit, so in the end, you're getting $175 free in ads.

Results: So far I've only spent $40.40. My ads got 20,911 impressions and 304 swipe ups, which is $0.13/swipe up. I'm now getting $0.15/swipe up, which I think it's much cheaper than most other AD networks. It also looks like +50% of people coming from Snapchat are converting into email subscribers which is incredibly high rates.

Here's the $100 credit from Neil Patel. Make sure to share your experience below if you use them!

    Hey man,

Awesome idea and thanks for the link to the Snapchat credit.

How did you go about advertising your podcast? Did you link to the Apple Podcast URL? Spotify?

I linked to Failory's website. I would also like to experiment with linking to Apple Podcast. If you do, let me know!

Can I challenge you to do the same test but targeting women?

It's a serious request that I don't really expect you to do, but I feel compelled to point out and would love if you would consider it.

Whilst I (totally and honestly) appreciate you are experimenting with ads, when I read this it makes me feel that you are just interested in a male audience for your podcast, which as a woman puts me off.

As a woman in tech and in business I try my best to point these things out, not necessarily for myself, but for all of us who struggle to fight for equality. ❤️

@rosiesherry, just finished trying this. It went really well. Cost per swipe up for:

      Male: $0,075
      Female: $0,069

      ;)

Definitely in for testing this, @rosiesherry.

The reason why I targetted male at first is that, as I see in Analytics, a big percentage of our audience are men so I guessed they were a better fit.
