So far, a not-so-successful SaaS story

Last year I dipped my toe into SaaS and web development with FreelanceOne.

A service to manage your freelance availability.

After 2 months, I released an MVP, launched it on ProductHunt, became #2 of the day, and gained 200 registered users within two months.

I received great feedback from users and the indie hacker community.

After 4 months, I added a freemium model … and only got 2 subscribers.

My first setback.

Then I discovered that someone had a valid trademark registered for FreelanceOne in the EU.

The second setback.

After weeks, I found a new name, LanceID.

But unfortunately, I never got used to that name. It didn’t feel right.

Slowly but surely, I lost interest and motivation to work on the product.

But the idea stuck with me all the time.

So I started to search for another new name. Found one and was able to acquire the appropriate domain for it.

That new name was the restarting point for me. After that, motivation kicked back in, and I felt energized to work on it again.

I started updating the project, visuals, and copywriting.

Then I got rid of the freemium model and now require a subscription for all users after their trial ends.

I have a lot of bold ideas and can't wait to implement and show them.

So here we go (again) 👇
