So, what problem does iPhone solve?

I'm wondering what exact problem does an iPhone solve.

I was told yesterday that there's more money to be made with things that are 'nice to have' (want) vs 'must have' (need).

...and it's true.

People are willing to pay way more money for iPhone than a regular feature-phone; and boy, Apple is the richest company in the world.

As IndieHackers, should we be looking for what people need (a phone) or what people want (an iPhone)? How?

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Is the iPhone really a "must have" / "nice to have" or are the apps running on an iPhone the "must have"s / "nice to have"s and the iPhone is just an "enabler" for running these "must have"s / "nice to have"s?

Well, I think the 'App Ecosystem' was developed later. The initial versions of iPhone were super simple; yet priced above the market. People happily paid for them.

If 'Apps' was the criteria, we have a huge Android ecosystem as well.
