So you have a newsletter...

What are the main pain points you had or are having starting a newsletter...

When starting my newsletter, my main pain point was coming up with a good name, tagline, and format. I had a pretty good idea of what to cover but it took me a lot of time to put all of this into focus.

It was a natural outcome of one my major interests, the Google ecosystem, and the constraints of the project, a curated roundup to keep the work manageable. I narrowed down to a specific niche by realizing there aren't any sources with a practical angle.

So my newsletter covers practical resources on Google products and related tech.

Huge difference between the pain points of starting and running a newsletter. What are you interested in knowing?

sorry about that, I updated the post to just focus on starting

Okay so, do you have a newsletter you're starting?
I'd look here to see what @kintulabs did: https://kintu.co/20-newsletters/
He started 20 newsletters in 20 days.

And I recorded a video each day of how I started my latest newsletter: https://www.loom.com/share/9361394b371e4574ac121bfb6bba733e

Probably the main pain point I had was that I knew too many places I'd like to post and kept having to write a few down, customize the text i'd like to share, and post. Lots of different communities and FB groups. Each one had to be carefully handled and customized. It was just a very full white board and I feel like I still missed a few place I could have shared it, the week I launched it.

Great videos! Would you still prefer to use substack over anything else? Just thinking about SEO etc.

          1. 1

At the time I wasn't thinking SEO. If you ONLY care about SEO, I'd avoid substack at all costs.

Thanks for the advice. Umm but I actually had an idea for creating a marketplace for newsletters, and I guess you would actually be the perfect person to validate the idea. So, what do you think?

            What type of marketplace?

            1. 1

              something like steep

For my current project management newsletter the thought was to share the craft and news about PM. I enjoyed writing about it daily on my site, but the newsletter model makes it feel more personal since I know how many people it’s going to and how many open it.

I’ve started a new project to help direct my love of information and facts. I’m launching The Daily Drop! on Monday as a means to write and share what I find with regard to random information; musics, sports, news, photos... anything. The goal is to give info in less than a 2-minute read. Again, the thought on this one was simply a means to redirect my personal need of info as I’m sure there are others out there who’d like the info.
