Software Agency Idea Feedback
So I’m curious if anyone would consider hiring an agency to focus on all the one off tasks that core devs can’t get to? The idea being the team keeps a list of todos that are nice to do but not have to dos. The agency focuses on those tasks so they get completed, up to a pre agreed number of hours per month. This way devs stay focused on key features but little things don’t drop by the wayside.
Useful? Silly because if they don’t matter enough to be done immediately they shouldn’t be done? What do you think?
From my experience as both software engineer and engineer manager, those tasks are not usually completed because no they're not important enough. Some of them might get done in hackweeks or when you have interns but they're not worth investing the money until the status quo changes. Also, everyone that's been in the industry for more than a couple years is usually aware that it's impossible to get to 0 nice-to-haves so it's just accepted that they're always going to exist.
Now, that being said, I don't know if you're idea is good or not. The only way to know for sure is to try to sell it to someone and see if they give you money and get value.
