Software Company targeting entrepreneurs and small businesses

Hi Everyone,

I've had the idea of starting a software company for few months now and I finally decided to take the step and do so.

Why?
I know there are a ton of software companies out there. From personal experience and experiences of some of my close friends that are entrepreneurs - sometimes trying to build custom software felt like being trapped between having bad experiences with some freelancers and not being able to afford most software companies.

I believe that there is a gap in service for smaller businesses, entrepreneurs or startups that want some sort of custom software built at an affordable rate by someone they can trust.

So am planning to start a small software development company targeting small businesses and entrepreneurs. The goal would be to understand client requirements and build custom software solutions that can help their business scale or run more efficiently. Focusing on web apps and mobile apps for now. But most importantly my goal is to build trust and communicate effectively with our clients on the entire process so they can know what stage of development their product is on.

How?
The entire team will be remote (which will reduce operating costs) so we can offer competitive rates to our clients. Slowly beginning to build my dev team.

We will be able to provide short or long term support for all the applications we build. So our potential clients can focus on actually running the business.

I have a partner I am working with. Pretty much done with the website. Trying to finish up with SEO and other optimizations.

Then I am looking to get the word out there. Build a community and have people know we exist - something this great IH community is teaching me.

Let me know what you think or if this makes any sense, appreciate your feedback.

Please feel free to reach out to me or follow here or on twitter (@eleven_steve). I will provide updates there and also here on IH.

ps: have nothing against freelancers, used to be one my self. It's just sad when some do a bad job and it reflects badly on the community.

Thanks for reading.

Look, I can’t help myself but get inspired by people like you. Of course I don’t know all the details so sorry if I misunderstood something.

I think the key is here:
“ I believe that there is a gap in service for smaller businesses, entrepreneurs or startups that want some sort of custom software built at an affordable rate by someone they can trust.”

I am not sure you need to think about the dev team right now. If you want to target small businesses, build trust and check if the gap exists, you should do that right now. And start with consulting them. I know we all like to build, but you want to check the gap and build trust, so that is your mvp.

Thanks for sharing, I am sure this is the right place to get help and support.

This makes sense. I will integrate this into my plan. I definitely need to start making contact with potential customers and getting their feedback and maybe learning about any pain points their business maybe having that we can help with. Thanks for the feedback!
