Solo founder dilemma; CEO or CTO?

https://nvnt.substack.com/p/solo-founder-dilemma-ceo-or-cto

Every solo technical founder goes through this confusion - should I bring in a non-technical co-founder and take care of product/engineering or should I focus more on the business and bring in another technical co-founder.

My dream would be to hire both CEO and CTO and became just head of research, doing all the reading, and coding without too many meetings with CEO and CTO.

Of course, I would fire them, if they invited me to too many meetings.

        Aweseome!

        Goat strategy!

Easy, hire someone with a mind for business & marketing. There's no sense in adding someone else who knows the same things you do. You'll have the same blindspots and mismanage the company.

Also, I have to call this out: solo founders calling themselves the CEO is really cringe to me. You weren't elected by a board of directors. Just call yourself a founder/maker/entrepreneur.

      I'm CEO guy tho!

We actually have two technical co-founders and one non-technical which has worked really well.

This has meant we have someone that can own the company building and business side of things whilst the other two focus on the product build and technical challenges.
Of the two technical co-founders, one is more frontend focused and the other more backend so the skill sets have been very complimentary.

The most important thing really is having that clear division of responsibility and trust in to let each discipline run their area.

Well, I guess it depends on what you're better at - or more importantly, what energizes you?
