Someone called my pitch “glue.” They were right — I’m leading with the check

Hey IH —

On my positioning post, someone said “ChatGPT + regex101 in one tab” is clear, but it frames Forge Regex as glue between two tools people already have.

The line they offered: “AI regex you can verify immediately.”

That landed. Nobody’s scared of regex syntax. They’re scared of shipping a pattern they only eyeballed.

What I changed in the product (not just the slogan)

  • Pattern is editable after generate; live highlight follows
  • Tighten / loosen / value-only refine on the same page
  • A cheap ReDoS warning if the pattern looks explosive

What I haven’t changed yet

The homepage H1 is still “Describe your pattern. Get the regex.” That’s the UI. It still doesn’t say why you’d switch.

I’m moving the first screen toward the check. The ChatGPT + regex101 line stays as a footnote for people who already live in that loop.

Ask

If you sell a “two familiar tools, one tab” product: did leading with the job-to-be-done actually convert, or did people still bounce to the original two tabs?
