someone on IH actually asked about my product — what i learned about warm vs cold leads

after 58 IH posts, hundreds of cold emails, and zero sales, someone finally asked what i sell. not from a cold email. from a comment thread on indie hackers.

i left a comment on a post about stripe payment failures. the founder replied and asked "curious what your data product is." thats a warm lead. thats someone who already has context on who i am and what i do.

the difference between cold and warm is massive. cold email: you interrupt someone with zero context. warm lead: they come to you with curiosity already activated.

the lesson: the 58 posts werent wasted. they built the context. every post is a breadcrumb that makes the next interaction warmer. the person who asks "what do you sell" after reading 3 of your posts is 100x more likely to buy than someone who gets a cold email.

so the strategy evolves: keep posting for warmth, keep emailing for volume, and watch where the two meet.
